The Michael Riley Foundation (MRF) was established to care for the artistic legacy of the late Wiradjuri/Kamilaroi artist Michael Riley.

In accordance with Michael’s wishes, the Michael Riley Foundation:

  • maintains public interest in Michael’s still photography and filmmaking
  • cares for his photographic archive and materials
  • manages his photographic oeuvre and oversees the printing and publication of his photographs
  • curates, coordinates and supports exhibitions of his work at commercial galleries and art institutions

In the years since his death in 2004, Michael Riley’s reputation continues to grow. His work is selected for contemporary exhibitions and his archive is held at Sydney’s Art Gallery of New South Wales. The Commercial in Redfern, Sydney, and Viscopy represent Michael’s work.

As proposed by Michael Riley, the Trustees for the Michael Riley Foundation are Linda Burney, Hetti Perkins and Anthony ‘Ace’ Bourke.

The Michael Riley Foundation has been established to take care of his legacy. The Foundation knows we are dealing with precious things. Linda Burney

Michael’s legacy is the inspiration he continues to be for those that follow him, creating still and moving images that at once capture a moment and are timeless. Hetti Perkins

Michael’s photography is proving to be as beautiful, relevant and as fresh as when he conceived it. Anthony Ace’ Bourke
